Dennis Flyer 2016

The Center for Hellenic Studies is pleased to announce an upcoming lecture by Dr. James Dennis Lo Russo. Dennis received his MA in Religious Studies at Georgia State University, his PhD at Emory University’s Graduate Division of Religion, where he completed his dissertation under the direction of Gary Laderman; he is now a postdoctoral research fellow at the Princeton University Center for the Study of Religion. His work engages the subtle interplay between the shifting economic and spiritual landscape in the United States today.

The lecture will be held on Monday, April 25, at 4:00pm in Room 830 at 25 Park Place on the GSU campus. It is entitled “Demystifying Austerity: On the Moral Language of Crisis in a Time of Capital.” In this lecture, Dr. Lo Russo will expand his insights to examine related trends in a European context.

A greeting and reception will begin at 3:30pm, and we expect that our conversation will continue after the event concludes.

At noon on the following day, Tuesday April 26, Dr. Lo Russo will be at Emory University in the Religion Department Lounge, hosting an informal discussion about the field and its economic prospects; all interested students are warmly invited to attend both events.

This event has been generously co-sponsored by the Department of Religion at Emory University and the Department of Religious Studies at Georgia State University.
